Nepali celebrations are mainly organized according to the lunar calendar. As a result, several festivals that take place could be a year in October, the next year could be in September or the following year may be in November.
The majority of the people who live in the Everest region are indigenous Mountaineers (Sherpa people) who practice Tibetan Buddhism. They do not observe all of the same traditions as Hindu Nationals living in the mountains do. As a result, some of the major Nepali events, which generally take place in October, aren’t observed in the Everest region at all, or even with any vigor.
You might encounter the grandest festival of Nepal Dashain & Tihar if you visit in October or transit via Kathmandu. For most Nepalis, these are two major festivals which normally fall in late September or in October. Dashain festival is celebrated to commemorate the victory of goddess Durga over the hideous demon Mahisasur. Dashain festival may fall in September or October & Tihar may fall in October or November.
One of the most important festivals celebrated by the Sherpa people is Mani Rimdu, which falls in October-November. This is a 19-day festival celebrated by Buddhists in the Himalayas to mark the founding of Buddhism by Guru Rinpoche Padmasambhava.
