Hotels in Kathmandu provide comfortable rooms with ensuite facilities and breakfast. In Ramechhap, accommodation is simple and comfortable, allowing you to rest before your flight to Lukla.

Mountain lodges along the Everest trail are locally operated and offer a warm, authentic Himalayan experience. Rooms are generally twin-sharing, while bathrooms are often shared. Facilities become more basic at higher elevations, but the hospitality, food and mountain scenery make the experience memorable.

Transportation & Trail Access

The journey begins in Kathmandu before travelling overland to Ramechhap through Nepal’s scenic hills, valleys, villages and terraced farmland.

From Ramechhap, you’ll take a domestic flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region. From Lukla, the journey continues on foot through traditional villages and beautiful Himalayan landscapes.

After completing the trek, you’ll fly from Lukla to Ramechhap and continue by road to Kathmandu.

All scheduled ground transportation and domestic flights mentioned in the itinerary are arranged as part of the package.

Meals on the Trek

During the trekking portion, you’ll enjoy three meals each day—breakfast, lunch and dinner—at local mountain lodges.

Typical meals include dal bhat, noodles, fried rice, pasta, potatoes, soups, vegetables, Tibetan bread, pancakes, eggs and momos. Vegetarian options are widely available, and dietary requirements can usually be accommodated with advance notice.

As you travel higher into the mountains, food choices can become more limited and prices may increase due to transportation and altitude.

We recommend carrying a reusable water bottle and using safe treated or filtered drinking water throughout the trek.

Daily Trekking Schedule

Each trekking day follows a relaxed and practical rhythm. Mornings begin with breakfast before setting off for the day’s walk.

Most trekking days involve approximately 4–6 hours of walking, depending on the route, terrain and pace of the group. We take regular breaks along the way to enjoy the scenery, take photographs and stay hydrated.

After arriving at the overnight lodge, you’ll have time to rest, explore the village or simply enjoy the surrounding mountains.

The itinerary is designed to maintain a comfortable pace while allowing your body to gradually adjust to the increasing altitude.

Packing & Luggage Guidelines

We recommend travelling light. Your main trekking luggage can be carried by porters, while you carry a small daypack with essentials.

Recommended packing list:

  • Comfortable trekking backpack/daypack
  • Waterproof trekking boots
  • Warm down jacket
  • Thermal base layers
  • Fleece or warm mid-layer
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Trekking trousers
  • Quick-dry T-shirts
  • Warm trekking socks
  • Gloves
  • Warm hat and sun hat
  • Sunglasses with UV protection
  • Sleeping bag
  • Headlamp and spare batteries
  • Reusable water bottles/hydration system
  • Sunscreen and lip balm
  • Personal toiletries
  • Small personal first-aid kit
  • Personal medications
  • Trekking poles
  • Lightweight sandals or camp shoes

Mountain weather can change quickly, so proper layers and waterproof protection are essential.

Trek Difficulty & Fitness Requirements

The Everest View Trek is considered moderate. It does not require technical climbing experience, but you should have a reasonable level of fitness and be comfortable walking for several hours on uneven and sometimes steep mountain trails.

Daily walking is generally around 4–6 hours, with uphill and downhill sections, stone steps and uneven terrain.

Our itinerary includes an acclimatisation day in Namche Bazaar to allow your body time to adjust to the altitude. Walking at a steady pace, staying hydrated and listening to your body are important throughout the trek.

We recommend preparing for the trek with regular walking, hiking, stair climbing, cycling or other cardiovascular exercise for several weeks before departure.

Money Matters & Tipping

It is recommended to carry enough Nepalese Rupees (NPR) before entering the higher parts of the Everest region. ATMs and card facilities can be limited or unavailable in some mountain villages.

You may need cash for personal expenses such as Wi-Fi, hot showers, charging, snacks and drinks.

Tipping is customary in Nepal and is a way of recognising the hard work of your guide, porters and other local staff. A suggested guideline can be provided during your trek briefing.

Altitude Sickness (AMS)

Altitude sickness can occur as you travel above approximately 2,500 metres. Common symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness, tiredness and shortness of breath.

To reduce the risk:

  • Ascend gradually
  • Stay well hydrated
  • Follow the acclimatisation schedule
  • Walk at a steady pace
  • Inform your guide immediately if you feel unwell

If symptoms become serious, descending to a lower altitude is essential.

Travel Insurance & Health

Travel insurance is mandatory for this journey.

Your insurance should cover:

  • Medical treatment and hospitalisation
  • Emergency evacuation, including helicopter evacuation where necessary
  • High-altitude trekking
  • Trip cancellation or interruption
  • Lost or delayed baggage

Make sure your policy specifically covers trekking at the maximum altitude included in your itinerary.

Our trekking team carries a basic group first-aid kit, but you should bring your own personal medications and any essential medical supplies.

Permits Required

The required permits for the Everest region are included in your package and arranged before or during the trek.

These include:

  • Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit
  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit

Please carry your valid passport during the journey, as permits and identification may be checked at various points along the trail.

Climate & Weather Conditions

The Everest region experiences significant seasonal changes.

Spring — March to May
One of the best trekking seasons, with generally clear skies, pleasant daytime temperatures and colourful rhododendron forests.

Autumn — September to November
Another excellent season, known for stable weather, clear mountain views and comfortable trekking conditions.

Winter — December to February
Cold temperatures and possible snow at higher elevations. The trail is quieter, offering a peaceful Himalayan experience.

Monsoon — June to August
Rain, clouds and slippery trails can make trekking more challenging. Flight schedules may also be affected by weather.

Mountain weather is unpredictable throughout the year, so flexibility is important.

Weather & Flight Contingency

Because flights between Ramechhap and Lukla are dependent on mountain weather and operational conditions, the itinerary includes a dedicated weather and flight contingency day.

If flights operate as planned, this day becomes an opportunity to relax, explore or enjoy a wellness experience in Kathmandu.

If a flight is delayed, the additional day provides valuable flexibility without immediately affecting your international departure plans.

Visa Information for Nepal

Most international visitors can obtain a Nepal visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.

  • 15 Days: USD $30
  • 30 Days: USD $50
  • 90 Days: USD $125

Visa fees and requirements can change, so travellers should check the latest information from the Department of Immigration, Nepal, before travelling.

Your passport should generally have at least six months of validity remaining.

Final Thoughts

The Kathmandu Heritage & Everest View Trek is more than a Himalayan trek. It brings together Nepal’s ancient heritage, Sherpa culture, peaceful mountain villages and spectacular views of Mount Everest.

With a moderate pace, dedicated acclimatisation, comfortable local lodges, expert guidance and a weather contingency day, it offers a rewarding way to experience the Everest region.

From Kathmandu’s historic temples to the breathtaking Himalayas, this is a journey through the culture, landscapes and spirit of Nepal.
