EBC Trek Hotels & Lodges Room

Along the Everest Base Camp Trekking, you’ll find both cheap and luxuries accommodation. Due to the popularity of trekking in Everest region, many hotels & lodges are slowly changing their type of standard. Besides Tea House Lodge, quality service hotels also available on EBC trek.

In fact, the Hotel & Lodges in EBC trek, you should expect in traditional sense, although they do look like lodges. But it is completely different then the city area, like Kathmandu. However, the facilities you get in Everest region Hotel & lodges are more then you expect in the mountain area. There are Wi-Fi internet services, Hot Shower, private room with attached bathroom, if you are cold – electric blankets on the mattresses etc.

EBC Trek Tea House Room

Jimmy Robert (British) in 1964, organized the first trek in Nepal. Their group sponsored camping trek In Everest Base Camp & Helambu trek. After that, group of tourists began trekking in high Himalaya, where they first stayed in village homes. After 1970s, number of trekkers increases, villages home stays evolved into teahouses.

Significantly, teahouses lodges which become identical with Everest base camp trek & other region of trekking in Nepal. Almost, every tea house in Everest trek have solar or electric hot shower facilities. In a winter season in higher altitude, all tea house lodges provide a lukewarm bucket shower due to reason of pipe frozen. They heated the water over a wood fire using wood or yak dung.

Everest Base Camp is one of the popular trekking reason in Nepal. Therefore, almost every popular trekking reason of Nepal. The facilities of toilet are of western style. As I have already mentioned that you’ll also have access to an adjacent bathroom with 24 hours hot shower a day. Accommodation on Everest Base Camp Trek

In EBC trek, the quality of accommodation varies greatly. The accommodations are specifically constructed to give the hikes with minimal amenities for relax & rest to sleep.

The lodges are nice, cozy & quite well. As you ascend, the rooms are even more basic. Accommodation are twin share basis (Two bed per room) and do not have attached bathroom unless you upgrade with extra cost, which is only available in specific lodges.

While trekking to EBC, you should apply some precautions about your health & hygiene to guarantee a joyful trek. Bring a pillow cover, utilize your own sleeping bag & stay away from eating meat.

Lukla Accommodation

Lukla is gateway to Everest base camp trek. A very few trekkers stay at Lukla in the first night. Normally, flights from Kathmandu or Ramechhap will be in the morning. If you want little more comfort, Yeti Mountain Home is there for you. But it is quite expensive hotel then other accommodation in Phakding. This is luxuries accommodation for people who have money and want a high-quality cuisine, and warm Sherpa hospitality.

All other teahouses/lodges have at least comfortable dining hall for the rest. The room for sleeping is simple, usually provides blankets (but recommend to carry sleeping with you as well), bathroom is generally communal, and most toilets are squat style.

Namche Bazaar Accommodation

Namche Bazaar is one of the popular bustling Sherpa town in Khumbu, Everest Region. This town is one of the largest Sherpa settlement along the Nepal Everest Base Camp trek route. You’ll have enough time to observe lifestyle, culture, custom and religion in Namche Bazar. No need to get surprised that there are still many hotels with wide variety of rates from budget to luxurious.

You can find the hotel & restaurants with mix of western & Asian with local cultural combination. There are variety of basic lodges, hotels, and tea houses for your comfort to stay for 2 nights.

Namche Bazaar is the last location where you can find great ranges of tea house lodges or hotel from your own choice. After a wonderful trip back from EBC trek, the majority of visitors spend the most of their time at Namche Bazar.

Near Namche Bazar, there is also a luxury hotel, “Everest View Hotel”, which is at the world’s highest altitude. This hotel provides the fantastic view of Mount Everest and other peaks of the Namche. There will be no doubt for great food & accommodation services.

Tengboche Accommodation

Tengboche is very popular for it’s Monastery, which is the biggest in the Khumbu Region. There are only five tea houses that serve the tourist. Many of them would like to stay there, after ascending the toughest section of the trekking day from Phungi tenga. Because of the monastery & stunning view of mount Everest also makes people to spend the night. The early morning view from Tengboche is awe-inspiring.

Actually, there are 5 lodges who serve the tourist. Among them I liked Hotel Himalaya & Tashi Delek – best lodges to rest for the night. They have warm dining hall with awesome view of Everest & Amadablam. The rooms are quite comfortable.

There is no doubt, night will be cold as we go higher up. You need be prepare for cold any time of the year – Recommend to carry warm sleeping bag even though you have blanket in your bed.

Dingboche Accommodation

Dingboche is also quite big town. In Dingboche, the lodges are mostly of traditional style that used for family purposes. Later, have been converted into tourist guesthouse that are built fairly modest scale. It can be a little raucous in the night before everyone has gone to sleep.

But the lodging facilities provided by tea house are minimal. The rooms are completely basic standard with common share toilet facilities. Nowadays, some of the lodges even have accommodation with attached toilet & bathroom.

Many trekkers stay at Dingboche for at least one day to acclimatize their body from high altitude. You may have to share a room with family members during high season. In fact, you may need to adjust in dining hall.

Thukla Accommodation

Thukla or Dughla is a final stop before heading one-hour toughest section of memorial pass. This is last stop if you cannot move onwards to Lobuche. Do not push your body if you cannot go Lobuche.

In Thukla also there are few lodges to accommodate travelers. Actually, people stop at Dughla for lunch before climbing up for Lobuche village. This is best place to energize your body in High altitude.

Accommodation are fairly modest style with plywood each side in room. This is family home that converted into tourist guest houses. There will little noisy in the night until everyone gone to sleep.

However, there will be no choice for your accommodation in that altitude. You must have ability to be flexible that arises amid the trip. Keep in mind “accomplishing the target is not always an easy Journey”.

Lobuche Accommodation

The accommodations in Lobuche are mostly basic standard hotel run by Sherpas. Actually, lodges are stone cottage and inner layer of each side room are plywood fence. It will be very cold during the night. You must bring -15 sleeping bag that could make you warm enough. Although, warm blankets and beds provided by the hotels.
You can easily hear the people talking in next room. But It is very difficult to get the room in a peak season. You can see a people with tents along the way near Lobuche peak, they are coming there for climbing Lobuche peak.

However, the lodges in Lobuche are fairly modest in the terms of style and amenities. In the recent years, additional contemporary facilities and services have been added, including seven newly-built lodges with approximately 200 twin-bed rooms. Although, Internet facilities & oxygen is also available in every lodges in higher altitude.

The accommodation in Lobuche have simple bed with foam mattress & cozy dining halls. You will find basic rooms with two or multi beds, a table and a wastebasket. Many trekkers, except expedition groups, stay in lodges.

Gorakshep Accommodation

Before or after reaching Everest base camp, Gorak Shep is a place where you should stay for the Night. There are only five lodges which are always packed. Quality of accommodation not that good you stayed like before. You should expect multi-share basis room. Many times, we even see the other hikers adjust to sleep in dining room. Although, it is warm in dining room for short time until the fire died out.

As you approach at base camp, you will see expedition team settle tents accommodation in base camp of mount Everest. In the 1950s, climbers used Gorak Shep as a base camp before relocating mount everest base. Later, people made directly underneath the notorious Khumbu Ice Fall. The lodges are indeed a popular gathering place for trekkers, guides, and porters in the evenings.

Due to limited accommodations, it is more congested than other lodges on the route. The rooms are chilly at night, and the bathroom / toilet water is frequently frozen.

Pheriche Accommodation

Pheriche is a famous trekking destination north of Dingboche. In Pheriche, the Himalayan Rescue Association runs a basic hospital (HRA). Pheriche has a few dozen lodges which offers an accommodation with attached toilet.

In Monsoon & winter season, it is a popular acclimatization stop (alternative to Dingboche) before heading to higher elevations at Gorak Shep.

Pheriche is actually a windy place, no trees; there are short & hardy grasses and other artic flora. The mountain view is excellent from Pheriche. This place is quite popular for its flat location & is about 200 meter down from Dingboche

Many residents have converted their houses as lodges to accommodate the flood of international tourists. Pheriche is originally an agricultural community, but the tourism sector appeared to take over, and many people used to work as a porters and guides.

Everest Base Camp Trek Accommodation Cost

The cost for accommodation in EBC trek is vary. If you are solo trekkers & want to upgrade your room with an attached bathroom with toilet facility, then you must speak with a hotel person. If you are in guided trip, talk with your guide or leader before starting your trip in the morning.

During the peak season it will be difficult get such well facilities room, whereas you need an early reservation. Hence, you need to pay extra for the upgraded room then normal room. Generally, upgraded room in Namche Bazaar costs roughly 1500 to 2000 Rupees.
